VANN (Johnson) is a singer/songwriter/actress who can
mix it up with a jazz trio, reach into the sublime space of a symphonic
orchestra, light up a rock concert venue, or sparkle on the big screen.
She is an astonishing performer. Both young and mature audiences are
mesmerized by VANN’s voice as she plumbs the depths of her soul to bring
that little extra to a song.
In her native Michigan VANN was always surrounded by
family and friends that were multi-talented musicians. VANN began
singing and performing at a young age, exploring all genres of music,
including gospel. But her unique range of vocal skills derives from
touring internationally and performing with symphony orchestras. When
she was chosen to sing “Home,” with an orchestra, for the television
mini-series An American Dream, VANN immediately fell in love with
performing in this medium. Her love for performing with a symphony
intensified when, as the soprano soloist with the San Diego Symphony,
she brought to life the songs from Gershwin’s renowned musical Porgy and
Bess. VANN now lives in Los Angeles, California.
Yanni and his orchestra opened the musical door for
Vann to become one of the few performers ever to sing at both the Taj
Mahal in India and the Forbidden City in China. VANN recorded and
performed the international keyboardist’s first song with lyrics, Love
Is All, during the international tour to film the timeless PBS special,
Tribute. A collective audience of over 550 million has viewed the
concerts. Responding to worldwide requests to hear more from her as a
soloist, VANN co-wrote and produced Messages, her first solo CD.
Messages, is a set of inspirational songs written to
entertain international listeners of all generations. Vann’s music has
been described as “world-class contemporary with messages that remind us
to remember the beauty of hope and love.” Messages chronicles life's
incredible journey and introduces audiences to VANN's lower, smooth
velvety vocal tones. Messages is available at Vannjohnson.com, and all
popular digital distributors.
VANN recently performed two duets with the legendary
Temptations on their latest release, Reflections. She has also recorded
duets with Gary Taylor, Michael Cooper, Grammy-nominated Canadian
singer-songwriter Dan Hill and R&B balladeer Michael Bolton. Her acting
credits include NBC-TV’s, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and the feature
film A Gun, A Car, A Blonde, starring Billy Bob Thornton and the late
John Ritter.
VANN is currently one of the principal singers on the
new NBC hit show, The Singing Bee. She recently returned from solo
performances for the Hope Gathering in Hawaii, and is writing and
recording for her next solo project with three time Emmy award winning
producer Bill Jolly. She also finds time to participate in international
outreach and fund-raising events, and keeps in touch with her many VANN
